Lance has straight, finely-textured blond hair that tends to look like a mess even when he just combed it. He wears it short because of this, keeping it out of his line of vision.

Lance's eyes match the color of a highly-polished sapphire stone, and they have a tendency to flick away from you even if you're having a most serious conversation with him.

Lance's clothing choices are as versatile as his interests; he's got something for everything. Whether he's going to a dance or out for a day of rockclimbing, he's got something to wear. He loves wildly patterned clothing, particularly if it's easy to wash and wear, since he rarely does one thing for a long time before flitting to the next. He has a tendency to wear gloves.

Lance loves being free to move around and therefore loves to travel, no matter where. He really likes to talk, and enjoys playing around telephones and various gizmos and gadgets. A multi-tasker, he likes doing several things at once and acting as the Devil's advocate. He's incredibly swift-minded and likes acting quickly with the knowledge and information he has.

Lance absolutely hates not knowing what's going on. He also doesn't like listening to endless complaints, especially if they're against him. He'll get edgy if he feels he's wasting time, and likewise gets angry if he's kept waiting for too long. He doesn't like being focused on one thing for too long because he feels like his mind shuts down if he's not jumping from place to place.

Lance is a very smart, likable fellow who can't help but make people laugh, even when he's not really even trying to. He's a Jack of all trades, but that also means he's the master of none because he loves to flit from one thing to the next. He loves playing games that require a sharp mind, such as chess or Trivial Pursuit. Opponents beware: he's smarter than he looks!

Lance is a full-blooded Hathaway, being the grandson of Irene and older brother of Lailani, December, Brooklyn, Brandon, and Brendan. He's had a pretty uneventful life, simply gathering as much information as he can cram into that brain of his since he was old enough to understand the basic idea of what knowledge is. He's considered skipping a grade in the past, but stayed behind.

Lance is very interested in speech and debate, as he's an excellent speaker, has enough brains to back up what he has to say, is interested and well-read in a varity of topics, and likes to argue. He also has an excellent memory and remembers almost everything he's read or heard; much like a hyperactive Klaus Baudelaire, if you've ever read the Series of Unfortunate Events.
